Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have basically had the wildest relationship of 1018. What with getting engaged after a month of being together, a handful of too much information television interviews, and Pete’s tattoo of Ariana’s pet pig, it’s been quite a whirlwind romance. Sadly, it’s now being reported that the duo has called off their engagement.
Just a little backtrack of their relationship:
They met September 2014 when Ariana appears as the musical guest on SNL (Saturday Night Live). And Pete, who recently joined the cast, makes his debut on the very same show.
March 2016, Ariana returns to SNL as the guest host. At the time she’s still in a relationship with Mac Miller, while Pete just started dating Cazzie David (Larry David’s daughter).
Over two years later, Ariana confirms split with Mac in an Instagram story, calling him “one of my best friends in the whole world and favorite people on the planet.” She added: “I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all time, regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us!” However, the two unfollowed each other shortly after.
May this year, according to reports, Ariana and Pete hang out together at the SNL after-party. And Pete confirms he and Cazzie have broken up in an interview. The two have been spotted hanging out together backstage at the Billboards Music Awards. A source says, “After Ariana’s performance, they were backstage and he had his arm around her. They seemed very lovey-dovey. He was hanging out with her and her friends with his arm around her. She seemed quite smitten.”
After that alleged smitten look is explained, the two were reportedly dating. Pointing out that the new relationship is ‘casual’ and has ‘just started.’
They have made it official with a Harry Potter-themed photo, Pete captions it with “The chamber of secrets has been opened…” Pete gets more tattoos for his new love, getting a ‘Dangerous Woman’ bunny mask and Ariana’s initials on his thumb.
After a month of dating, the couple were rumored engaged. They moved into a $16-million, five-bedroom apartment in New York together and Ariana reveals there’s a song called Pete on her new album.
Their engagement was confirmed by Pete on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, “It’s fucking lit, Jimmy. I feel like I won a contest.” Where Ariana, on the same show, reveals she’d had a crush on Pete for several years before they started dating, and went on to explain that she’d joked to her tour manager “I’m going to marry him, hundred percent.”
On October 14th, TMZ reports that they have called off their engagement over the weekend, “with both parties acknowledging that it simply was not the right time for their relationship to take off. We’re told the two still have love for each other, but things are over romantically.”
Pete co-hosted a benefit for Swing Left with Jude Apatow in Los Angeles, where he joked about his breakup with Ariana. “Well, as you could tell, I don’t want to be here. There’s a lot going on, does anybody have any open rooms? Looking for a roommate?”
“So, obviously you know I, we broke up of whatever but when me and her first got engaged we got tattoos, and it was like in a magazine like, ‘Was Pete Davidson stupid?’ And 93% of it said yes.” Davidson told the audience. “So my boy, he was like ‘Don’t listen to that s—t man. They’re literally f—ing haters.’ And I’m like yeah, f—k that. I’m not stupid. And the other day we were in my kitchen and he was like, ‘ Yo bro. Turns out you were stupid.’”
